Raising profile and funds
The Lord Mayor of Bristol’s Children Appeal (2014 & 2015)
The challenge:
A volunteer-led charity, The Lord Mayor of Bristol’s Children Appeal, had just 10 weeks to raise awareness and funds. In addition to tactical support to meet the short-term aim of providing vouchers for 1,650 disadvantaged children at Christmas, the charity has also required longer-term strategic guidance.
Approach:
I developed an already strong relationship with target media, delivering unprecedented coverage in the Bristol Post’s news and business sections for the city’s biggest carol concert and charity gala dinner. I provided professional fundraising materials, from direct mail appeals to sponsorship packages.
Results:
Both fundraising events sold out and together raised mor ethan £32,000. In a six-month period I drafted 28 news releases, with 74 articles in print and 40 logo uses. Employing an alternative postal service I gained a 19p per unit saving, plus an offer of 25% discount on toy vouchers. I have also advised the charity on its future strategic development. The Lord Mayor’s team described me as a ‘PR and marketing guru extraordinaire’!
